The 2012 Trouble in Toyland report is the 27th annual NHPIRG survey of toy safety. In this report, NHPIRG provides safety guidelines for consumers when purchasing toys for small children and provides examples of toys currently on store shelves that may pose potential safety hazards.

Nuclear Plant Threatens Drinking Water, Study Says

Dangers assessed: Study says radioactive leaks from Seabrook or Vermont Yankee could impact millions.

Drinking water for almost 4 million people could be at risk of radioactive contamination from a leak or accident at the Seabrook nuclear power plant and over 3 million from Vermont Yankee, according to a study issued Monday which is disputed by some nuclear plants.

The President nominated Rich Cordray, a highly respected former Attorney General from Ohio, to direct the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the nomination requires Congressional approval.  Cordray was endorsed by thirty-seven  Attorneys General in a bi-partisan effort to move this nomination forward, including the Republican AG from his home state of Ohio and our own Michael Delany.

Survey Finds Toxic or Dangerous Toys on New Hampshire Store Shelves

Dangerous or toxic toys can still be found on America’s store shelves, according a New Hampshire Public Interest Research Group’s  26th annual Trouble in Toyland report.

This morning NHPIRG released the report. It reveals the results of laboratory testing on toys for lead and phthalates, both of which have been proven to have serious adverse health impacts on the development of young children.  The survey also found toys that pose either choking or noise hazards.

Tell your representative to oppose the “Financial CHOICE Act,” which would gut Wall Street reforms and destroy the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as we know it.
