Stopping Global Warming Starts Here

What’s New
Last December, Governor Lynch agreed to a NHPIRG endorsed plan to cut global warming pollution from New Hampshire’s power plants. The plan, called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), includes seven other Northeast states and would allow New Hampshire to tackle global warming on the state level, in the absence of a federal program. NHPIRG is pushing New Hampshire state officials and decision makers to ensure they follow through with RGGI, to cut global warming pollution – for the benefit of our coasts, forests, mountains, and public health.

How You Can Help
Please write a letter to the editor supporting cuts in power plant pollution.

Brief Summary
Global warming represents one of the most profound threats to our environment that we will face in the 21st century. From extreme weather and severe storms, to melting glaciers and rising sea levels that threaten our coastline, to frequent summer droughts that affect our vibrant fall foliage and maple syrup season, there’s no doubt that global warming is real, and it’s happening now.

The good news is that we have the solutions right here at our fingertips. We can reduce global warming pollution by using existing technology to make power plants and factories more efficient, make cars go farther on a gallon of gasoline, and shift to cleaner technologies, such as hybrids, biofuels, and wind and solar power. We can cut global warming emissions right here in New Hampshire and lead the way for the rest of the nation to follow, but we need our leaders to step up and take action. NHPIRG is working to convince our state leaders and our Congressmen in Washington to work toward sensible solutions right here and now. More.
